At the beginning of the project, there is the orientation phase, where the theme and the topic of the project will be introduced. Also, pupils become aware of what and how they will learn during the project, what the timeline will be, how they will be assessed, what the framework for communication will be, etc.
It is important that pupils are involved at the very start and that they have a feeling of ownership. Learning with eTwinning gives pupils the feeling of freedom, but at the same time responsibility.
Participants should have the opportunity to express their expectations at the start of the project. However, throughout the project they should have additional possibilities to give feedback.
The orientation phase integrates an engaging activity to introduce the topic of the project. It should link to reality and to the world of the pupils. Pupils should have the feeling that they are content producers and that there is room for personal initiative.
1. Mindmapping: participants create a driving question around the topic or list the connections between the topic and their personal lives. The results are presented in a mind map.
2. Timeline: the participants create a timeline with all the activities of the project and the tasks for each activity with the deadlines. In that way, students and teachers will be aware of the timeframe and organise their work more efficiently.
