eTwinning Projects win Global Junior Challenge Award
We are pleased to announce that two eTwinning projects came away as top winners at this year’s Global Junior Challenge awards ceremony held on 5 October in Rome.

The 2007 edition of the Global Junior Challenge took in submissions from over 600 participating projects from 70 countries worldwide. With the aim of rewarding best practice in the use of new technologies in education and training, the jury selected 102 finalist projects in 7 categories. A total of 22 awards were given at the awards ceremony.

4 eTwinning projects made it to the final 102 project shortlist, with 2 of them coming out as top winners:

Category “Up to 10 years old”:

“Kids H@nd in H@nd

Comments from the jury: “Kids H@nd in H@nd” is a superb example of 21st century education combining creativity, fun and international collaboration between young children in order to address the critical dimension of emotional development. The project’s main goal is to enable the expression of feelings in a safe and child-friendly environment through the innovative use of a universal language made up of hand-prints, drawings, games, etc. Children are equal but have their own feelings and thoughts and “Kids H@nd in H@nd” brings this clearly out across many countries and cultures.

Comments from the jury:  “Maths to Play” is an inspirational educational response to the challenge that the diffusion of scientific and technological knowledge among students and citizens presents to European Community aiming to build a competitive knowledge economy and society. Too often, students find traditional approaches to learning science and technology off-putting and shy away from scientific careers. “Maths to Play” effectively tackles this problem through a combination of international eTwinning and a ludic didactics of learning-by-playing that avoids complicated formulae and stimulates the use of logic, intuition, fantasy and reflection about the discipline.
