Tools

The eTwinning Portal offers a range of online tools to assist you in finding a partner and running your project. Between tools available on both the public and the restricted area of the Portal, eTwinning tools are simple and easy to use whether you are a basic or advanced ICT user.

The Glossary introduces you to core words and notions of eTwinning.

You can use it as a dictionary or skim through it to get the sense of eTwinning.

The Guidelines explain in detail how to use the eTwinning tools.

They can also be printed.

The partner-finding tool for schools registered in eTwinning. It automatically suggests chools that match your profile and project preferences.

It is available on the Desktop of each school.

Internal messaging system. This allows for the safe exchange of messages with other schools registered on the eTwinning Portal.

Messages are visible only from the Desktop but the notification of new messages is sent to the user’s e-mail address.

On the eTwinning Desktop, schools can book a chat room or use one of the six public rooms to talk to a potential partner for a project or discuss their ideas about eTwinning.

Partnerships describe project activities and processes in the progress card. The National Support Services (NSS) follow activities and provide feedback and pedagogical support.

This is often done if the school applies for a national or a European award.

A progress card consists of entries which can be submitted at any time during the life span of the project. Entries can be published so that they are accessible from the eTwinning Map.

A database or repository of learning materials that are shared among eTwinning schools.

The resources are made available by schools and include materials that have been either prepared in eTwinning or found useful in general for eTwinning by teachers.

The TwinSpace is a safe platform for project partners to communicate (chat, mailbox and discussion forum) and collaborate (sharing documents, presentations, photos, etc.).

Its access is restricted to the partnership and available from each partner’s Desktop once the project is approved by the National Support Services.

TwinSpaces can be published on the Internet by their administrators.

External Tools

Each registered user logs in to his/her own Desktop to use the tools to look for partners and set up and manage partnerships. In addition to the Desktop and TwinSpace, registered partnerships can also use external tools for collaboration in their projects.

The external tools are offered by private companies or organisations in education. The use of the tools is in some instances free and in others restricted where users must subscribe either through the Central Support Service or directly at the provider.
