Interview with Mario Mauro |
 |
Mario Mauro, Vice President of the European Parliament, has been interviewed on eLearning, eTwinning and other related themes |
 |
Mario Mauro explains in this interview why teachers from all over Europe should take part in eTwinning and the main benefits the Lisbon Strategy will bring to the European Knowledge Society.
In particular, the European dimension of education is seen as the most relevant and widespread European activity, involving training, students and teachers exchanges, traveling and working abroad. This is seen as the real foundation of the development of a true multicultural and multilingual society, based on the principles of sharing and helping each other.
Europe must invest in education as well as in the new technologies and training to keep up with the promises of the Lisbon strategy for the knowledge society. The connections with the new economy are too strong and the risks of being unprepared for the challenges of the new millennium are linked with the lack of resources in education and technologies.
Finally, Europe must help schools involved in the Tsunami tragedy by helping schools redevelop what was lost during the flood, from books to schools, and by continuing to provide support after the first aids based on emergency. Development is only possible with a solid educational system.
