eTwinning Project among Finalists in Stockholm Challenge |
 |
We are proud to announce that the eTwinning project “Maths to Play” has made it to the finals of the international Stockholm Challenge competition. |
 |
The Stockholm Challenge, an annual worldwide competition which aims to promote the use of ICT in tacking major global issues, has recently announced the finalists for its 2008 competition. Among an original 2000 entries worldwide, the list was first narrowed down to 400 entries and has now been narrowed down to 145 finalists in six categories: Culture, Economic Development, Education, Environment, Health and Public Administration.
In the Education category, we are pleased to report that the eTwinning project Maths to Play, which was conceived by Liceo Classico "E. Duni" in Italy and the Lycée classique de Diekirch in Luxembourg, has made it through to the finals. The project first started in 2006 and has now continued in a second phase in 2008 between the Italian school and a new partner from the Lycée Gaspard Monge in France.
Using Magazine Factory, Maths to Play is a webzine project which aims to spread scientific culture among students and citizens, as it is a fundamental element of social and economic empowerment. The project implements a non-traditional approach to Maths, through which students can learn “by playing”, but also by reflecting on the deepest meaning of the subject. The project won the 2007 Global Junior Challenge Award.
All 145 finalists will travel to Stockholm for the Challenge Week, which will take place from 19-22 May. The winners will be announced during the gala evening in the City Hall and receive the prestigious Stockholm Challenge trophies and a 5000 Euro stipend.
On behalf of the eTwinning team, we would like to congratulate Maths to Play for already making it this far. Best of luck to you in the final round!
