Safer Internet Day 2007 Competition
Enter the Safer Internet Day 2007 Competition and win a prize for your school! Using one of three ‘Ready-made Project Kits’ on internet safety, register your project on the eTwinning Portal by 15 December 2006 and enter your project in the competition.

On 6 February 2007, we will be celebrating “Safer Internet Day” which is part of a global drive to promote a safer internet for all users, especially young people. On this occasion, Insafe, the European safer internet network, is organising a Safer Internet Day 2007 Competition.

eTwinning and Insafe have teamed up to get teachers and students involved in this important issue through projects on internet safety using one of three ‘Ready-made Project Kits’.  Find a partner school, choose a project theme and kit, and work together to prepare your entry for the competition. (Please note: no more than two schools can participate in each partnership for the competition).

The three kits are:

• e-Privacy: Social networking websites are increasingly popular among young people. But are users always aware of how to stay safe on the net? How important it is to create a safe profile? How can privacy be protected online?

• Netiquette: Networking in cyberspace (social networking) lets you interact with a large number of people, create groups based on common interests, participate in public fora, etc. How does online communication differ from other ways of communicating?

• Images: What information can a picture give? How should images be used in online and mobile communications?  Can publishing an image be hurtful?

Create a poster, brochure, video clip, workshop or other awareness material about the ethical & safe use of Internet & mobiles, focusing on your chosen theme and post your creation on the blogathon which will go online on 6 February 2007. Four prizes – one for each thematic kit and one for the most innovative entry – each valued at €3000 will be tailored-made to the winning classes’ ICT needs, i.e., hardware, software, broadband access, etc.

Competition deadlines: Your project must be registered on the eTwinning Portal and entered in the competition on the Insafe website by 15 December 2006. Your project must then be finalised by 5 February 2007.
