Now over 40 000 Schools registered to eTwinning!

	The number of registered schools has now topped the 40 000 mark showing how important eTwinning has become for teachers and pupils across Europe.

eTwinning was launched in January 2005. Since then, the Action has continued to grow with ever-increasing speed as schools register each any every day to what is now one of the largest school communities in Europe.

While the number of schools registered to eTwinning is currently just over 40 000, the number of individual members (e.g., teachers, principals, librarians, etc.) is closer to 45 000. Currently, there are approximately 4 000 active projects running involving two or more schools, while since the launch of eTwinning, the total number of projects registered overall (including active and closed projects) has been just over 7 000.

As the number of schools in eTwinning continues to grow, so do the types of projects that are run. The European eTwinning Prizes, an annual competition which began in 2006, demonstrates each year that the quality and creativity of top projects is ever increasing. In addition to ‘traditional’ eTwinning projects using email and documents for exchange, many projects now run eTwinning websites or blogs specifically for their project work and make use of tools, such as audio and video conferencing, to communicate and collaborate with their partners in a more interesting and interactive way.
