World Summit on the Information Society - WSIS
The impact of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) in education and general life implies new ways of creating knowledge, disseminating information and educating people.

The World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) is held in two phases. The first phase took place in Geneva in 2003, where 175 countries adopted a Declaration of Principles and Plan of Action. The second phase will take place in Tunis from 16-18 November 2005 where efforts will be made to put the Plan of Action into motion.

The challenge of WSIS is to harness the potential of information and communication technology to promote the eight development goals of the Millennium Declaration.

The UN agency that takes the lead in organizing the Summit is the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
