The eTwinning portal facilitates work and communication between schools in a partnership. Partnerships can use the eTwinning portal tools or external tools for collaboration in their projects.

The eTwinning portal tools have been developed for the specific purpose of offering the possibility to teachers and pupils to collaborate in a safe environment on the Internet. Many precautions have been taken to ensure that people from the outside cannot access the eTwinning virtual platform, and this makes it a perfect place for pupils (and teachers) to communicate and exchange information.

The external tools are offered by private companies or organisations in education. The use of the tools is in some instances free and in others restricted where users must subscribe either through the Central Support Service or directly at the provider.
