Ideas Competition Winner |
 |
Primary school teacher Philippe Barbera from Ecole Heidelberg in Montpellier, France, is the ‘eTwinning Weeks’ Ideas Competition winner thanks to his interesting project idea that combines food, culture, language and ICT |
 |
As part of the ‘eTwinning Weeks’ organised earlier this autumn, all schools registered during this time had their project idea entered into the Ideas Competition. From over 1600 registrations, Philippe Barbera from Ecole Heidelberg emerged with the winning submission and has thus won a trip to an upcoming Professional Development Workshop.
After having learned about eTwinning through a colleague, Mr. Barbera decided to register to the Portal with the following project idea in mind:
- Using the names of plants, trees, fruits and vegetables, partners work together to translate these names in their respective languages and share the cultural significance of expressions that exist using fruits and vegetables. For example, using the word cherry each partner provides a translation of the word as well as an explanation of cultural expressions that exist using this word, such as “the cherry on the cake”. The exchange of information would be both written (via email or presentations) and spoken (via MP3 recordings or video conferencing).
This project idea is very interesting in regards to its proposed activities as well as its flexibility, as many other additional activities are possible. For example, students can produce artwork to depict fruits and vegetables as a base for translation work; stories and plays can be written using information about the origins of each expression; and online presentations can be created to exchange information in an interesting way.
Although Mr. Barbera has not yet established an eTwinning partnership, his students have already started working on various activities within their class and they look forward to continuing and sharing their work with students from other countries in Europe. We would like to congratulate Mr. Barbera again, and wish him the best of luck in a future eTwinning project!
