I am principal of a Danish " Efterskole" situated in the northern part of Denmark. The school houses 90 dyslectic and other moderate learning difficulties - boys and girls 14 - 18 y. o. I teach a little bit myself but is primarily occupied with administrative tasks - when I am not talking to the students about whatever is on their mind.

|MEJLBY EFTERSKOLE is a sort of a boardingschool; within the Danish tradition of "free" schools based on the ideas of N.F.S. Grundtvig. The school houses 90 students; boys and girls in the age; 14-18. They are dyslectic or suffer from other moderate learning disabilities. They are all with NORMAL intelligence. We teach Danish, Mathematics, Science and English and other theoretical schoolsubjects. We value practical and theoretical subjects equally and therefore we also teach agriculture subjects, wood-and metalworkshops, building-construction, outdoor-life, creative subjects, music, health- and sports items and horses as well. The school is situated in a small village in the Northern part of Jutland and we have a small farm at the school with horses, sheep, cows and pigs. We also have good workshops facilities. We are interested in projects where the schools work with dyslectic issues integrated in English lessons and practical issues such as agriculture, outdoor activities, construction works, music. arts and other items. Practically every subject, where physical activities can be included . Our students are taught English, but it is difficult for them due to their dyslexia. Nevertheless they would like to try out their abilities in real life. We are also interested in projects that prepare the students for their future working life - often within agriculture, building-construction or service subjects such as food industry. Almost half of our students take the national tests by the end of 9.th grade.|
