To promote cultural awareness, understanding and tolerance among the children of each school
To develop communication skills across physical boundaries
To enable the exchange of professional educational dialogue
We will address:
Racist views and intolerance of other cultures, faiths
Misunderstandings and stereotypic concepts
Using new technologies children will have the opportunity to find out about what life is like for children in other countries. They will see and speak to each other using web cams, video conferencing, podcasts etc and be able to ask and answer questions online. They will have penfriends with whom they will build up friendships. They will write letters, send instructions for games, discuss recipes etc and through these activities teachers will help them to respect aspects of the life of others which may seem unusual and strange.
Teachers, during visits and also using e mail, will learn how schools in other countries try to motivate children as learners and they will develop their own professional competences through lesson observation and pedagogical discussions. Each host school will make a presentation about how the school motivates children. The presentations will be put together to make a ‘Golden Book’ – a final product which will be a long term resource for all the schools.

They will learn about the European Community and their place within it.
Children will develop their communication skills as they share and exchange materials, ask and answer questions and make new friends. They will learn that children have very similar lifestyles in all the countries and that each country has traditions which are unique. They will learn to celebrate and respect the differences and so develop positive views about other cultures in their own country, in Europe and in the wider world.
During the project the children will participate fully in planning, developing and exchanging materials using both traditional communication methods and new technologies including video conferencing and podcasts.
During the visits, host schools will present a performance including creative dance and music. This will be videoed to show the children at home who, in turn, will respond by e mail.
Teachers will also be motivated by sharing good practice and learning about ‘motivating children as learners’ in each country. The teachers’ end product – the Golden Book – will be a long term professional resource.
