Rules and Netiquette – establish base rules within your partnership

Before you start working in the TwinSpace with your classes, it is a good idea to establish rules on the use of the TwinSpace for your pupils so that they work in the same manner in both countries.

Some tips for your work with the TwinSpace

These tips are based on the common mistakes in the use of the TwinSpace. Check if you are on the right track:

• Put all your documents (and file archives) in a few thematic folders to avoid a long list on the left-side navigation bar
• Decide on a short and clear name for each folder to facilitate the navigation
• Use the web pages to write text; not the folders and file archives
• Use the photo gallery to upload pictures; not the file archives
• Write down the username and password of the people you invite to the TwinSpace, especially if you fake their email address. It is not possible to retrieve this data again.
• Write down and be sure to send the correct URL of your public TwinSpace.
   

The following TwinSpace Netiquette list can help you establish such rules:

• Always answer within a reasonable timeline (one week maximum, if not agreed differently).
• Always be polite.
• To avoid misunderstandings, use simple language.
• Be aware that jokes may not always be interpreted in the same way in another country.
• Double check grammar and spelling, especially if you are not writing in your mother tongue.
• Keep your messages short and stick to the point.
• Do not use all UPPERCASE letters in your messages; uppercase can imply shouting and may be considered rude.
• Feel free to use emoticons to make your communication more expressive but try not to overuse them as it can make information unclear.
• Do not give unnecessary private information, even in the safe TwinSpace platform, and be very careful about this in any online conversation outside the TwinSpace.
