Sharing and publishing your work

picture

Web publishing is a very popular feature of the internet. It is very motivating for pupils to see their work published on the web. There is a large number of web-based software for easy production and publishing of rich media and open-content materials: photos, digital presentation, audio and video files, texts and resources, web links, etc.

Web magazines

Web magazine software provides teachers and pupils with an opportunity to work as editorial staff in the class and to publish a web magazine of their own. The teacher is the editor-in-chief, while the pupils are journalists. The web magazine may be a single project, or be edited continuously throughout the school year. It can focus on one topic or topics may change for each issue of the magazine. You can create a structure with several permanent sections. There can also be more language versions of a magazine.

Other tools outside of eTwinning available on the internet include:

Blogging

A blog (short for web log) is a website where entries are written in chronological order and displayed in reverse chronological order. A typical blog combines text, images, and links to other blogs, web pages, and other media related to its topic. The ability for readers to leave comments in an interactive format is an important part of many blogs.

Most blogs are primarily textual, although some focus on being a photoblog, sketchblog, vlog (video, MP3 blog (music), or podcasting blog (audio), and are part of a wider network of social media (Wikipedia).

You can set up a team blog and use it as a platform for collaboration in your partnership. Your students can contribute and comment on the items posted on the blog. Weblogs are quite easy to set up with the available free software. You can have one blog for each project or for a group of pupils working together. As with the other publishing software, it is very motivating for your pupils to see their work published on the internet.

Podcasting

A podcast is a collection of files (usually audio and video) residing at a unique web feed address. People can "subscribe" to this feed by submitting the feed address to an aggregator. When new "episodes" become available in the podcast they will be automatically downloaded to that users computer. Unlike radio or streaming content on the web, podcasts are not real-time. There is no live broadcast of content, the material is pre-recorded and users can check out the material at their leisure, offline. (Wikipedia)

Podcasts are prepared in advance, which is a convenient feature, as the pupils can prepare what to say and how to perform it. Podcasts are very popular with foreign language teachers.
