Butterflies are beautiful and some fly great distances across Europe. In this project, children will create their own paper butterfly and write messages for children in the partner schools. The message will tell the children something about what the butterfly has seen. The children will receive butterflies from each of the partner schools. Finally one butterfly will travel to each of the partner schools and what it sees in each country will be recorded on the shared webspace through photographs. It's progress can be monitored throughout the life of the project.

Part 1 - Schools agree to post (paper) butterflies to the other partner schools. Each butterfly will be designed and made by a child and will be decorated on one side and the other will hold information. This information will be on the under side of the butterfly wings. On the left side the butterfly will include words and pictures about the child. On the right side, the butterfly will include words and pictures about the school and location (town / village / country / weather / landscape). The butterflies will be put in an envelope and posted to each school on the week beginning 4th October 2010. They will "migrate" across Europe. Each school will then receive many butterflies from different countries. They can use these to find out about the children in other countries and to decorate their school. Part 2 - A butterfly will leave Scotland in August and will fly (by post) to each partner school. As it travels, it will record its journey on the shared webspace - Twinspace. Each school that receives the butterfly will post photographs of their location and their school on Twinspace. This will form a record of the butterflies' journey and allow schools to monitor its position. hide
