They will begin by considering their personal identity and place in the world through investigating the diverse factors that influence their lives in order to build a base line of understanding. This will include consideration of their lifestyles, leisure activities, diet and daily routines and the impact these have on themselves, their community, environment and culture. They will compare findings and collaboratively create their view of an International identity. This will include researching the Olympic and Paralympic Values and their significance for students’ personal lives and future employability, as well as investigating the benefits and attributes sport and leisure activities bring. The project will also raise students awareness of the changing nature of employment in the 21st century, and the need to develop transferable skills within an international market place, such as being able to communicate, whether in one’s own or another’s language, as well as needing to develop the ability to work in a team, leadership, problem-solving and research skills. These skills would be developed in all abilities, including students with special educational needs. They will work together on developing these in a motivating way through sport related activities, thus raising awareness of the need for health and fitness too.
In the second year students will focus on a more regional identity, looking at how the region has changed (including an examination of how both the natural and built environment have changed) and the reasons for and the impact of these changes. They will then consider the future they face in terms of the environment, housing, transport, technology and future employment, and make recommendations of how to deal with this hypothetical future.
