My name is Mikael and I am an ICT-coordinator at Södertörns friskola, Sweden. I have a genuine interest in programming, especially game development. This year I plan on starting a project with the help of NordPlus Junior, so I thought I'd find a partner school through eTwinning.
The project with NordPlus is called "IGD - Intercultural game development", and focuses in teaching children how to create their own computer games. This is part of the project summary:
"Regardless of country or language, all children play games. Whether they use a computer, gaming console or simple toys, the act of playing is a universal form of communication.
In this project we wish to teach children how to create their own computer games using simple tools and regular computers, and we have chosen the web as our platform. A computer game is often void of language, the goal could be to catch something on the screen, or solve some sort of puzzle. The act of creating a game is therefore perfect as a collaborative exercise between cultures.
We will focus our attention on creating web based games, so that everything that the children produce can be uploaded to the web and shared with the rest of the world. This way, they will be able to play each others games during and after the project, and perhaps continue to collaborate and share their creations. Children that are not part of the project could also be influenced and maybe try to create games for themselves.
The project will begin by inviting a group of children from Iceland to our school in Sweden. There we will have lectures on game development and offer several coding sessions where small groups of children will sit and write program code together, helping each other and inspiring each other. Then we will do the same thing, but at their school in Iceland."
I am now looking for a primary school in Iceland with whom we can start this project!
