Find the monuments

Partner schools upload descriptions of the most important monuments of their town in their TwinSpace. Partner pupils then have to find out the exact names of the monument and locate their positions using Google Earth.

Age Group:     5-18 years
Level:            Intermediate
Duration:        1 -2 weeks
ICT tools:        Google Earth, TwinSpace

Pedagogical Objectives

Pupils improve their research and ICT skills and at the same time, become more familiar with each others’ cultural traditions.

Process

Step 1

The pupils take photos of the most important monuments in their area. Alternately they can search for photographs of the monuments on the internet, but they must be conscious of copyright issues. When they have gathered all the photos, they upload them to a photo gallery in the TwinSpace or elsewhere. Their partners then have to find the monuments and pinpoint them on Google Earth.

Step 2

The pupils create a game where they give the coordinates of six important features in their area and their partners have to find them. This could be expanded to cover more than one country.

Outcomes

Pupils create an interactive photo gallery about the principal cultural monuments of their partners’ cities, regions and/or countries.

Tips
This activity has the possibility of many types of variation and can be easily incorporated into many types of project
