eTwinning and Professional Development
eTwinning provides a number of professional development opportunities for teachers |
The professional development aspect of eTwinning has had a busy year with several European Professional Development Workshops taking place. The first of these was for Head Teachers in Gothenberg, Sweden where over 100 Head teachers participated. This was followed by a workshop on the theme of Social Inclusion in Tomar, Portugal, and a workshop is Villasimius, Sardinia for European eTwinning ambassadors, both of which attracted over 100 participants each. Alongside the European Professional Development Workshops there are many regional workshops where the National Support Services of two or more countries plan joint activities for their eTwinning teachers. To date six such regional workshops have taken place in Romania, Latvia, Portugal and Spain. Nine more are planned before the end of the year in Germany, France, Slovakia, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Luxembourg. As well as the highly developed online programmes of countries like Spain and Poland, a new series of Learning Events have been offered this year within eTwinning. Seven events have taken place in a wide variety of subjects and are very popular with application for places filling up within hours. A further ten events are planned before the end of the year. Each event takes on average about 150 participants. It is worth noting that in 2009, in excess of 21, 000 teachers participated in some form of professional development through eTwinning.
